CULT GLORIA
In this project we got together in groups and had to pick a small clothing company and produce some promotional material for them. In our group we chose a brand called Cult Gloria because of its strong aesthetic and message of a cult that would be interesting to adapt in our shoot/video. Our concept boards focussed around promotional material of the brand and similar visuals, such as a cloaked figure in the woods. It was relatively easy working in a group on this project as we all seemed to have a similar view in what we wanted. Our shoot was done in school with a pop up black studio hired out from the CLR, on the first shot we actually used the light reflector for a background and it came out really well. The clothes in the shoot were all mine but customised, I cut up my Thrasher hoodie which had satanic graphics on it and painted cult gloria on the hood, almost as if this would be a uniform.
manaqueins were used as props because the lack of personality in them creates a sense of morbidity, the plain white tshirt was ripped and death was painted on it in black paint to really get across the aggressiveness and anger of the shoot.
This was the film that was to accompany the campaign shots of the brand, It was also all filmed on site, we hired out LED lights from the CLR to create uncomfortable and dancing light that members of the crew were waving about, giving almost a lightning effect. I edited the whole video, the whole point was to make the viewers uncomfortable: the cult is not for the weak hearted. So along with the angry looking model and the disturbing and near ear drum piercing soundtrack, I also slipped in flashes of disturbing images to make the viewers jump and be disturbed. Everything worked out quite well however the pop up studio was a little disappointing as in that you can see creases in the screen.
